War is the second episode of the Italian Amazon Prime Video series Citadel: Diana. The episode was released on October 10, 2024.
Synopsis[]
Diana and Edo form a secret agreement and make their first move, but they underestimate Cecile’s fierce reaction. While Manticore Italy is under attack, Ettore Zani has to step in to stop a war from breaking out. In the flashbacks, Diana completes her training with Gabriele and becomes a Citadel agent.
Plot Summary[]
Diana delivers the French half of a powerful weapon to Edo Zani. She informs him of Luca’s death and expresses her desire to leave the Manticore agency. Diana is tired of working with shady organizations and selling weapons to the Mafia; she would prefer to take down bad guys instead. Meanwhile, she proposes using her situation to pit the Germans against the French while also working in the background to resurrect Manticore Italy.
After this meeting, Edo reviews some data, revealing more about Diana’s backstory. She has been with the company since 2022, and her parents died in 2017 during “Special Operation 011,” which deepens the mystery of her motivations.
Diana returns home, where she gets into a heated argument with her sister Sara. After the fight, Diana is followed by a group of agents, but the episode provides flashbacks to fill in her backstory. In one flashback, Diana meets with Gabriele, who gives her more details about her parents' plane crash, hinting that another agent was on board and reinforcing the notion that their deaths were not accidental.
In the present, Edo decrypts some data from the device Diana gave him and discovers an anomaly. As Ettore, his father, enters the room, Edo quickly hides his findings, revealing to his father that Cecile, their French counterpart, is plotting behind their backs. Ettore believes the proposed marriage with Cecile could be beneficial, but he is unaware of the full extent of her plans.
Later that night, Diana meets with Edo again. He reveals that the French half of the weapon is a sophisticated interception system that can evade all security systems due to its microscopic size. However, Edo discovers a flaw in the system, meaning the entire deal with the Germans was a setup to double-cross them. Edo agrees to help Diana stir trouble to achieve their mutual goals.
Diana heads to an abandoned amusement park, 300 kilometers from Milan, for another deal. The encounter quickly turns violent as shots are fired. Meanwhile, Cecile hacks into Zani Manufacturing, causing chaos. She seizes control, further intensifying the tension between the different factions.
Ettore tries to negotiate with Cecile, admitting that they were spying on her, and he names Diana as the key figure acting against their orders. This revelation puts Diana in even greater danger, as she is now considered a major threat. Unaware of this, Diana returns home and is attacked by an armed agent. She suffers from a dizzy spell and blacks out, but when she regains consciousness, the agent is gone.
Diana gets a call from Sara, who is at a nearby bar with Edo, unaware of the earlier shootout. Meanwhile, Ettore watches video footage of Diana’s previous interrogation and realizes she lied, confirming her deceit and further raising the stakes.
