Synopsis[]

2030: in a gray and hyper-controlled Milan, Diana and Luca are sent on a mission to Lugano to spy on the exchange of a powerful weapon. Not far away, Edo Zani, Manticore Italy’s heir, has to respond to an unexpected proposal from the head of Manticore France, Cecile. In the flashbacks, Diana investigates her parents’ suspicious deaths when she meets Gabriele, a mysterious Citadel agent.

Plot Summary[]

The episode opens with a dramatic scene where Diana kills someone, then shoots herself in the arm. She flees in a car. The story takes place in Milan, Italy in the year 2030, where safe zones have been established to control the population. The global Manticore network is active, though there are protests against these zones and a controversial firearm regulation modeled after the American system.

Diana and her partner, Luca, are assigned a mission to spy on fellow Manticore agents and are instructed not to engage in violence. Their mission leads them to a weapons manufacturing firm called Zani, run by Ettore and Edo Zani. This firm creates firearms disguised as everyday items, making them undetectable by security. A tense meeting occurs between representatives from France and Germany, Cecile and Wolfgang, who are displeased with the Zanis being restricted from full participation in the Manticore network for another three years.

Outside, Cecile makes a bold move, proposing to Edo that they merge their territories by marrying, which would give them greater power. Edo is hesitant and needs time to consider her offer.

Diana and Luca travel to Switzerland, where they eavesdrop on a secret meeting involving the French and German agents, who mention a mysterious weapon codenamed "Apple". Ignoring her orders, Diana impulsively shoots and kills the French agent, but the German agent escapes. Diana grabs one half of the “Apple” and flees with Luca, who is shocked by her reckless behavior.

Diana confronts Luca and kills him in cold blood. When questioned by her superiors, she lies, claiming Luca shot first and was having an affair. She passes a lie detector test and shifts the blame to him, continuing her deceitful streak.

It's revealed that Diana is obsessed with uncovering the truth about her parents' mysterious plane crash in the Alps. While pursuing Rainer, the escaped German agent, she collapses and is diagnosed with Ménière’s disease, a disorder affecting the inner ear and causing vertigo.

At the hospital, Diana is visited by her estranged sister Sara. Their relationship is strained due to past family issues, and Sara tries to convince Diana to join her in Iceland, one of the few places free from the oppressive safe zones. But Diana is too consumed by her quest for revenge to leave her mission behind.

Meanwhile, Edo Zani faces his own dilemma, torn between forming an alliance with Cecile and staying loyal to his family.

Diana continues her pursuit of Rainer and demands 20 million for the other half of the “Apple.” She also receives a call from a mysterious informant named Gabriele, who reveals that the plane crash that killed her parents was orchestrated by Zani Manufacturing. Gabriele, a Citadel agent, urges her to bring the culprits to justice.

In the present day, Diana arrives at Edo Zani’s door, armed with the knowledge of his involvement in resurrecting Manticore Italy and the French half of the weapon. She’s ready to talk, setting the stage for more intense confrontations to come.
