Mason Kane is one of the main characters of the Prime Video series Citadel. An elite espionage agent working for Citadel, Mason is portrayed by actor Richard Madden. Audie Rick portrays Mason as a young child.

Official Biography[]

Mason Kane is a Citadel Tier-One agent — driven, methodical, and unstoppable. After a fateful mission abroad, Kane has his memory wiped. Years later, we discover Mason living a quiet life as "Kyle Conroy" with no memory of his past. Until one night, he’s thrust back into the world of spies as he pairs with his former partner, Nadia, to untangle a web of dangerous secrets that could threaten his family and the world.

In The Series[]

The Human Enigma[]

Mason boards a train in the Italian Alps, on a mission with Citadel. He finds his colleague, Nadia, who seems surprised to see him- insisting she can handle this mission alone. Mason covers Nadia as she locates and moves in on her target. He fights some of the target's men and beats them. Mason enters the dining car and sees Nadia in trouble. He starts shooting, but the target detonates a bomb and Mason goes flying out of the railcar.

Mason wakes up in a hospital bed in Bellagio, Italy. A doctor tells him he's suffering from retrograde amnesia. He tells him his name is Kyle Conroy and passes him his passport and wedding ring, informing him there is no record of him in the U.S.

In a flash-forward eight years later, Mason is living a happy life with his wife and daughter in Eugene, Oregon, as Kyle Conroy. He still cannot remember his life before that train crash but he does get occasional flashbacks of a woman (Nadia).

Mason's wife, Abby, calls him and urgently tells him to come because someone is in their house. Mason runs to see what's going on. His former colleague Bernard points a gun at him and his family, instructing them to get in the car. Mason has no idea what's going on because he doesn’t recognize Bernard. Back at Bernard's, he explains to Mason his real identity and his former profession- as a Citadel agent. He asks Mason to help him with an urgent Citadel mission- in exchange, he'll tell Mason who he was before the train crash.

Spies Appear In Night Time[]

In Wyoming, Mason talks to his wife Abby about the revelation of him being a spy. He tells her if he can get this case back, he can keep her and Hendrix safe- which is all he cares about. Mason leaves with Bernard to go on a mission to get the X Case back. Bernard gives him special security clearance so he can enter a building and tells Mason to rely on his old instincts, which will keep him safe.

He steals the X Case and runs into the car with Bernard, where they escape. However, they are being tracked by Davik Silje who shoots at them. Mason sees that Bernard got shot. He tries to help him but believes him to be dead so he goes to grab the X Case and the vial that contains his memories, which is now broken. Suddenly he sees that Nadia's location in Valencia, Spain is revealed. He grabs the X Case and escapes.

Mason goes to Valencia to find Nadia and tell her that she is a spy, like him. He finds her in a restaurant but Davik has followed them and a fight breaks out. Nadia uses her memory vial and her former spy/fighting skills come back to her. She fights off Davik and helps them escape.

Infinite Shadows[]

Nadia brings Mason to Citadel’s warehouse and assures him they’ll be safe because she disabled the tracker in the x-case. Inside, she treats his gunshot wound. He tells her about his life and asks about their past together.

In a flashback from ten years earlier, Mason is given a mission to intercept a strain of ebola from a syndicate in Iran. Mason goes and nearly gets killed on the mission but Nadia comes in and helps him esape. Eventually, they form a romance.

In the present, Mason asks Nadia to help him become his old self. Nadia asks fo his help to save another Citadel agent- Carter Spence. Mason agrees and goes to a meeting with Balduino to try and get information.

Tell Her Everything[]

Nadia and Mason sneak into a Manticore Black Site in Morocco to rescue Carter. They fight and shoot at several guards to get through. When they find Carter locked in a cell, Carter appears to more afraid than relieved when he sees them. He is confused and surprised to see Mason, telling him “You did this”.

In a flashback to ten years earlier, Mason and Nadia are in Paris together, having fun and drinking champagne in their hotel room. Nadia introduces Mason to Celeste Graham as the new tier-one agent on their team. Mason enlists her on a mission to go undercover and infiltrate the Silje brothers. Celeste leaves but Mason doesn't hear from her for months. He is suspicious she is a mole and sends in an ops team to bring her back.

Mason questions Celeste, even threatening her brother's life if she doesn't tell him the truth, but Celeste maintains her innocence. Mason initiates Backstop so that Celeste loses her memories. Carter accuses Mason of suspecting that Nadia is the real mole and that he is using Celeste as the scapegoat because he is in love with Nadia. Mason shuts down Carter's theory.

Time Renders Us Enemies[]

In present, Carter tells Mason they can't trust Nadia. Mason seems unsure who to believe.

In flashbacks, Mason tells Nadia that she makes him him. He proposes to Nadia who takes the ring in a symbol of acceptance. They go on a mission in Greece. Later on, Mason admits to Nadia after she confronts him that he helped backstop Celeste but only to protect Nadia whom he knows stole the Oz key. Nadia decides she can't trust Mason and she shuts him out.

In present, Nadia admits to Mason that they have a daughter together who is eight years old now. Mason is shocked. He asks Nadia if he knew before and she tells him that she never told him about Asha.

Secrets in Night Need Early Rains[]

In a flashback, Mason sat as a young child in a military hospital. His father died and according to his grandmother, his mother was off traveling. Mason cites this as the reason he joined Citadel in the first place.

In present, Mason has to hack into a Russian nuclear submarine to obtain nuclear weapons for Dahlia, who has threatened his daughter. He undertakes the mission with Nadia and Carter’s help and successfully gets the weapons to trade with Dahlia’s accomplice, Cristoph, who is now holding Asha hostage. They make a trade but the nuclear cores are encrypted. They kill Cristoph and her accomplices and make a run for it with Asha, now safe.

Mason reunites with Abby and Hendrix. Carter creates a back up vial of his memories. He injects it in himself and realizes that Dahlia Archer is in fact his mother and that he was the Citadel mole who betrayed everyone by giving their names to Dahlia. He did this because Citadel was behind the attack that killed his father - Thomas- and many innocent people. Mason is shocked by this revelation.

Mason is tall with a medium build. He has short brown hair, a beard, bushy eyebrows, and a fair complexion.

Personality[]

Mason is a confident, go-getter, who isn’t afraid of trouble or a fight. After he loses his memory and becoming Kyle, he becomes more of a calm, down-to-earth family man who would do anything to protect his wife and daughter. Once he starts to learn about his spy past, his confidence starts to come back to him.
