Joseph Russo is an American filmmaker born on July 18, 1971, in Cleveland, Ohio. He is best known for co-directing several Marvel Cinematic Universe films, including Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, alongside his brother Anthony Russo. Russo began his career as a director on the TV series Arrested Development, which he co-produced and directed alongside his brother.
He also co-created the series Community and directed several episodes of the show. In addition to his work in film and television, Russo has directed commercials and music videos. He has received numerous awards and nominations for his work, including several Emmy Awards for his work on Arrested Development and Community, and an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture for his work on Avengers: Endgame.
